Your Guide to Bankruptcy Laws and Resources
By Alexander Hernandez, J.D., Professor, and Author of Consumer Bankruptcy Law (Routledge).
Welcome to my first YouTube video posting. This video focuses on bankruptcy and the related issues I will discuss with the blog, which include the following:
- Bankruptcy (of course, it’s the name of the blog) in both Chapters 7 and 13.
- Bankruptcy-related news and tie into common fact scenarios you could likely face in your case.
- Credit cards.
- Student loans.
- Car loans, and
- Mortgages.
Additional information to look out for is the contact information for your local bankruptcy court. That link can be found below or by clicking here. I will also be publishing a page for bankruptcy trustees, whether for Chapter 7 bankruptcy or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, with their contact information as well. There will be articles associated with your state, such as exemption limits.
I’ve also included YouTube videos that tie into my bankruptcy law textbook for paralegal and legal studies students who want to dig deeper into the chapters of the textbook. The videos also provide a different angle to help you with your studies. The link for those videos can be found here. You can also find the link at the bottom of this page.
Finally, future links would include reviewing and teaching you how to file for bankruptcy. For those videos, I will be using the forms for pro se debtors. For the paralegals, I’ll continue using Bestcase software as a guide, like I do in the textbook.

Professor Hernandez is an attorney specializing in consumer finance and debt relief. He is the published author of Consumer Bankruptcy Law (Routledge Publishing) and teaches law and finance courses in both English and Spanish for an international university.
Colleges and universities can purchase my bankruptcy law textbook directly from Routledge Publishing. Paralegals and students who are buying single copies can do so via Amazon Books. To access my YouTube channel, click this link. You can also listen to my podcast on Spotify.
You can learn more about filing for bankruptcy and the bankruptcy petition via this link. Information on the bankruptcy court system, contact information for trustees, and your state’s exemptions can be found here. The federal bankruptcy exemptions are listed here. The latest version of the 341 Meeting of the Creditors can be found here.
