U.S. Bankruptcy Court: District of Nevada
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada is divided into two divisions: Las Vegas and Reno. Both locations are staffed for in-person filings, but it is recommended that you file with the court’s online systems, PACER.gov and CM/ECF. In this video and blog, I explain how to use the court’s PACER and CM/ECF systems.
Note that as of April 2025, bankruptcy judge Natalie M. Cox has been appointed as the Chief Judge, and the Clerk of Court is now Daniel S. Owens.

General Court Contact Information & Locations for the District of Nevada Bankruptcy Court
The Clerk’s Office is the administrative hub for the court, handling case filings, CM/ECF support, and public inquiries. It is a critical reminder that while staff can assist with procedural questions, they are strictly prohibited by law from providing legal advice.

Federal Bankruptcy Judges- District of Nevada
As of early 2026, the District of Nevada bench is led by Chief Judge Natalie M. Cox. The judges are distributed between the two divisions to ensure statewide coverage.
| Judge | Primary Location | Phone Number |
| Hon. Natalie M. Cox, Chief Judge | Las Vegas | (702) 527-7030 |
| Hon. Mike K. Nakagawa | Las Vegas | (702) 527-7138 |
| Hon. August B. Landis | Las Vegas | (702) 527-7010 |
| Hon. Hilary L. Barnes | Reno | (775) 326-2120 |
| Hon. Gregg W. Zive (Recalled) | Reno | (775) 326-2107 |
The Professor’s Tip: Judge Nakagawa maintains specific requirements for amended pleadings, requiring a redlined version (in red or blue) to be filed alongside the document to clearly identify changes. Always check the specific “Judicial Guidelines” for each judge on the court’s website.

Counties Served by Each Division
In Nevada, the venue for your bankruptcy filing is determined by the county of the debtor’s residence. You must file with the proper bankruptcy court; otherwise, your case can be dismissed. Always make sure to review the bankruptcy court’s website for updated information.
- Las Vegas Division: Serves the southern part of the state, including Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln, and Nye counties.
- Reno Division: Serves the northern and rural counties, including Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Pershing, Storey, Washoe, and White Pine.
Local Bankruptcy Court Rules & Resources
Like all districts, the District of Nevada operates under its own Local Rules of Bankruptcy Practice, which were most recently updated, effective December 2025.
As a published author in this field, I always emphasize that local culture often dictates the “unwritten” rules of the courtroom. Given Nevada’s unique split between the high-paced Las Vegas docket and the Reno bench, reviewing the latest Local Rules and the 2026 Poverty Guidelines (for fee waivers) is essential.
