The Crazy Story of the King- Elvis Presley’s Graceland Foreclosure
Hi there, and welcome to another episode. What will I be talking about today? The crazy story involving none other than the King, Elvis Presley, and a foreclosure on Graceland. But this isn’t just any type of foreclosure; this one was fake. Yes, fake! Below is a summary of what you can expect to hear.
Listen to the podcast.
Why was Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Foreclosure
Who would ever guess that Elvis Presley’s Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, would end up in foreclosure? But it did.
Apparently, a woman named Lisa Jeannine Finley, who has more aliases than I have YouTube videos posted, created a fake loan with Graceland as collateral. Finley threatened to foreclose if she wasn’t paid the balance on the loan. Sure enough, she began the foreclosure process. Luckily, it was confirmed that the loan documents were fraudulent. The DOJ alleges Finley forged Lisa Marie Presley’s signature.
What makes this story even more interesting is that CNN reached out to Finley and received a response that was partially in English and partially in the language of Uganda. The response claimed that Finley’s identity had been stolen and that she wasn’t responsible for the fraudulent loan.
Finely claims that someone from Nigeria had stolen her identity and committed the fraud. I wonder if it is the same Nigerian who emails me every morning claiming he has a couple of hundred million dollars that needs to be transferred to my account. This is the part where I say fact is stranger than fiction.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) did have Finley arrested. “As alleged in the complaint, the defendant orchestrated a scheme to conduct a fraudulent sale of Graceland, falsely claiming that Elvis Presley’s daughter had pledged the historic landmark as collateral for a loan that she failed to repay before her death,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri, head of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.
“As part of the brazen scheme, we allege that the defendant created numerous false documents and sought to extort a settlement from the Presley family. Now, she is facing federal charges. The Criminal Division and its partners are committed to holding fraudsters to account.”
This whole situation is absolutely crazy. I have heard of foreclosure fraud happening before. In fact, one of my friends who owns a title company was caught up in such a scheme. So, while it happens, this is on a whole other level.
But we are talking about the King here, so you have to go BIG! The amazing part is that the fraud got so far.
