Professional Background

Hernandez began practicing law after graduating from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, focusing on consumer bankruptcy and family law. As a sole practitioner, he appeared frequently on Telemundo Miami Channel 51 and hosted a weekend radio show discussing legal issues affecting South Florida families.

He earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Florida International University, where his academic foundation in criminal justice shaped his later work in bankruptcy, consumer finance, and legal education.

Teaching & Academic Work

As a law professor, Hernandez taught and developed bankruptcy and family law courses for Purdue Global Law School, where he also served on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee. He later taught Criminal Justice courses at Central State University (HBCU) and received the Outstanding Instruction Award while teaching paralegal studies at the University of California, Riverside.

He has also taught Business Law, Bankruptcy Law, and Economic Analysis of Law, in both English and Spanish, at Marconi International University, where he developed the Business Law curriculum. His first teaching position was at Millennia Atlantic University, where he was recognized as the highest‑ranked professor by students.

Writing & Publications

Before founding Bankruptcy.blog, Hernandez served as a legal writer for Upsolve.org, a nonprofit organization helping consumers file for bankruptcy. He is also a featured contributor to LinkedIn News, offering expert commentary on bankruptcy, consumer finance, and retail insolvency, including analysis of the Saks Global “doom spiral.”

His first textbook, Consumer Bankruptcy Law, is published by Routledge Publishing and is also available on Amazon.

Personal Interests

When he’s not writing or teaching, Hernandez enjoys working on his golf game, training on his Echelon, and camping with his wife and pets. His latest hobby is meadowscaping, restoring natural meadow habitats at home.
