Navigating the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Mississippi
If you are considering bankruptcy or are already involved in the process, this page is designed to provide you with authoritative and practical information to help you understand what to expect.
Whether you are filing on your own (pro se) or are simply exploring your options with an attorney, you will find essential guidance to navigate the process at Bankruptcy.blog.
The Role of the Mississippi Bankruptcy Court
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Mississippi handles cases under Chapter 7 (liquidation), Chapter 13 (wage earner reorganization), and other types of bankruptcy filings. This is the court where you will file your official bankruptcy petition. While many proceedings occur at the courthouse, most 341 Meetings of Creditors are held at designated locations within your specific district, presided over by the bankruptcy trustee.
What This Guide Will Cover
To help you move confidently through the bankruptcy process, this page will walk you through the essential information, including:

- Required Forms and Documentation: Guidance on locating and completing the necessary federal and local forms (for an in-depth breakdown, search our “How to File Bankruptcy” section).

Bankruptcy can be overwhelming, but the court system provides resources to help debtors stay informed and organized. My goal is to make that information accessible and understandable.
Northern Bankruptcy Court District
The Northern District of Mississippi conducts its bankruptcy proceedings across three principal locations to serve debtors throughout the region. Those locations are:
| Location | Role | Address |
| Aberdeen | Main Office (Clerk’s Office and Filings) | Thad Cochran U.S. Courthouse, 703 Hwy 145 North, Aberdeen, MS 39730 |
| Oxford | Hearing Location Only | Federal Building, 911 Jackson Avenue, Oxford, MS 38655 |
| Greenville | Hearing Location Only | Federal Building, 305 Main Street, Greenville, MS 38701 |
Main Office: The Bankruptcy Clerk’s Office is located in Aberdeen. This is where you would typically direct all general correspondence, official inquiries, and file your initial bankruptcy petition.
Hearings: The Oxford and Greenville locations are used for court hearings, including those before the judges and possibly the 341 Meeting of Creditors, though the specific location depends on your division and the judge’s calendar. The location would be referenced in the hearing notice.
No Clerk’s Staff: Neither the Oxford nor the Greenville site has a permanent Bankruptcy Clerk’s staff; all formal communications and filings should be sent to the Aberdeen office.
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Mississippi is presided over by two judges, each with a dedicated chambers staff to manage their respective dockets. While all formal case filings and general inquiries should be directed to the Clerk’s Office in Aberdeen, use the contact information below to reach the chambers of Chief Judge Jason D. Woodard and Judge Selene D. Maddox, as well as the main administrative staff.
